What is Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technology?<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning is the technology of indoor and vehicular environmental comfort, and the systems that provide all of us with that comfort. From heaters to keep us warm on cold winter nights, to the air conditioners that cool us off on hot summer days, HVAC technology maintains our homes, buildings, and vehicles in optimal conditions. Ventilation systems are critical as well, as they maintain air quality for our health and comfort. Together, these systems are critical for maintaining the air temperature and quality of the environment in which we live, work, and play.<\/span><\/p>\n

HVAC technicians are the professionals who are responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of those systems. In addition, HVAC techs are trained to conduct diagnostic tests to determine causes of problems and how to best repair those issues. HVAC techs also work with sensitive systems such as water, electrical, and fuel lines, and must be proficient in basic electrical and plumbing systems. Motivated HVAC techs stay informed on the most current technologies available and relevant governmental regulations, and may choose to specialize in specific aspects of the industry, such as solar panels, green technologies, commercial refrigeration, and radiant heating systems. <\/span><\/p>\n

The need for these skilled professionals has been steadily increasing over recent years. More extreme weather has meant more brutally cold winters and sweltering summers- across the country, all year-round, there are vehicles, homes, and buildings in need of effective HVAC systems, and the technicians who install and maintain them. With HVAC technology continually developing, more \u201cgreen\u201d technologies such as solar panels and \u201csmart\u201d climate control systems becoming readily available, and changing governmental regulations, HVAC is a field that is expanding with ever increasing opportunities. It takes training to be able to install and maintain HVAC systems, and to diagnose and repair problems in those systems. HVAC technicians with training from an accredited vocational school and proper certification are easily employable in today\u2019s labor market. The Commercial Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning program (HVAC) program at IBT prepares students for entry-level careers in the HVAC industry.
